At Regency Recruiting, we want you to have the best interview of your life. We have prepared this list of interview tips as a guide. Whether your interview is with one individual or a group of many, following these guidelines will steer you in the direction of interview success.
Find Your Dream Job

    Practice

  • Practice answering common interview questions using specific examples from your career. Employers want to hear how your skills can be applied to their business.
  • Prepare a list of questions to ask the employer during your interview.

    Research

  • Be familiar with the company and the job description for the position for which you are applying.
  • Visit the company's webpage and understand the products they sell or the services they offer.
  • Try to relate what you know about the company when answering interview questions.

    Prepare

  • Dress to impress! Make sure your interview attire is clean, wrinkle-free, and appropriate for the position and company with which you are applying.
  • Bring extra copies of your resume in a professional notebook or folder and take a pen and paper to write down notes and questions you have regarding the position.

    Be On Time

  • Nothing is worse than an applicant who is late for their interview. First impressions are everything! Arrive five to ten minutes early.
  • If you arrive more than five to ten minutes early, use the time to prepare for the interview before you go into the building. Recruiters and hiring managers often have very busy schedules and may not be able to meet right away if you arrive too early.
  • Map where you are going and plan an alternative route in case of a detour or traffic.
  • Consider driving to the interview location ahead of time so you know exactly where the location is, where parking is available, and how long it will take to arrive.
  • If you are running late, call as soon as possible.

    Stay Calm and Engaged

  • During the interview, try to stay as calm as possible.
  • Listen to the entire question before you answer, make eye contact frequently, and maintain open and friendly body language.
  • Interviews are not just about your previous work history and skills. Hiring managers and recruiters are also evaluating how you fit into the culture of the company and skilled interviewers will pick up on nonverbal signs.

    Follow up

  • Always follow up with a thank you note within 24 hours of the interview.
  • If you interview with multiple people, send each person a thank you note for their time and consideration.
  • Reiterate your interest in the position and how your skills and background are a good fit.
